Garfield, the lasagna-loving, Monday-hating, lazy yet lovable feline, has been calling Muncie, Indiana home since his debut in 1978. Despite his big-city fame as the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip and his impressive, award-winning media and pop culture empire, Garfield has never strayed from his small-town roots. Garfield’s creator, Jim Davis, graduated from Ball State University in 1967 and kept Garfield’s headquarters and studio in Delaware County for decades.

Start your journey at the Destination: Muncie visitors center and retail shop to plan your trek and grab some Garfield merch. Then, explore Muncie and Delaware County as you travel to each four-foot tall Garfield statue around town, each uniquely painted and decorated by a local artist and commissioned by nonprofits and sponsors to celebrate Garfield’s 25th birthday in 2003.
Sign up for the Destination: Muncie Garfield Trail mobile passport to guide your experience. Receive your passport to your phone via email or text—no app download necessary! Earn points as you visit and check-in at each statue. Redeem those points for a chance to win a Garfield prize pack.

Jim Davis is one of Ball State University School of Art’s most famous alumni. While you’re in town, visit Jim’s alma mater and gain some inspiration on campus with art from around the world at the David Owsely Museum of Art, or from cutting-edge art students at the School of Art Ned & Gloria Griner Gallery and Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass.
Once your creative juices are flowing, let inspiration spark at an art class or experience. Create some unique ceramics, paint some happy little trees, or develop your skills in music or dance at Made in Muncie Pottery, the Bob Ross Experience at Minnetrista, Happy Accidents Art Studio, or Cornerstone Center for the Arts.
No Garfield trip would be complete without meeting some of his furry friends. Visit, volunteer your time, and maybe even become a fur-ever home for some kitty cuties (and doggos, too) at the Animal Rescue Fund, Grateful Rescue & Sanctuary, and Muncie Animal Care & Services humane shelters.
If there’s one thing Garfield loves, it’s FOOD. As you work up an appetite traveling along the Garfield Trail, make a pit stop for some of his local faves—mouth-watering lasagna, piping-hot pizza, and a big ole cup of coffee. We don’t recommend inhaling your grub in one bite, though.
