At Munsee Woods, we’ll explore a half-mile natural trail through a mature forest and spend time in a renovated lodge. Situated west of Prairie Creek Reservoir, the 48-acre Munsee Woods is a former Girl Scout camp turned nature preserve that’s protected by the Red-tail Land Conservancy. In 2011, Munsee Woods became Delaware County’s first dedicated state nature preserve and has been used as a gathering place for education and outdoor recreation ever since. Munsee Woods includes majestic older woods, wetlands and streams, which have inspired a love of the outdoors in generations of Girl Scouts as well as visitors to the preserve today. You can learn more about the nature preserve here.
The trek will be co-led by a Hoosier humanities scholar and a naturalist from the Red-tail Land Conservancy. As we explore the landscape, we’ll stop to read short works by nature writers. The trek will conclude with a shared discussion around a campfire.
Your ticket price includes a campfire meal, Upland Brewing Company beers and snacks for the trail, in addition to any entrance or rental fees associated with the trek.
