Gordy Fine Art and Framing is proud to highlight the art of these two artist through Saturday April 26th.
Aimee is primarily a printmaker who often works with linoleum blocks known as Linocut. A linocut is a type of relief print with a lot of similarities to woodblock printing in the way it yields heavy lines with dramatic and expressive results. Essentially, the artist carves an image into a linoleum block and what’s left of the block is inked and printed. Sometimes Aimee adds color using gouache which is an opaque watercolor paint. Aimee is also a helicopter pilot working in the health care profession evacuating patients needing emergency transport. Sometimes Aimee’s images are composed with unusual perspective. Aimee’s work as a pilot exposes them to these different viewpoints daily and much more than those of us who view the world from ground level.
Michael is well known for his dramatic drawings where he uses heavy black lines to conjure dark images that are lit from an unusual angle with an artificial light source. In this show they are mostly self-portraits that reveal an inner struggle. Michael is Associate Professor of Art Education at Ball State who has experience as a graphic artist. His aggressive approach to drawing yields imagery well suited to visualizing the internal and external toll of aging and the emotions that go with it.
