A Few of My Favorite Things

Location

Artist: Lily Bales (2021).

My love of art and animals comes together. Art brings life to otherwise boring places and things. I enjoy creating art in every corner of my living space. The purpose of this project is to bring color and joy to those who see it.

A Phylum At Risk

Location

Artist: Kenzie Hughes and Josephine Rammel (2020).

We believe that, as caretakers of the Earth, we need to be poignantly aware of the effects we have on our fellow inhabitants. Birds play a vital part in the makeup of our ecosystem. Without them, our fragile way of life would crumble to the ground rather quickly. Key roles that birds play in their environments are maintaining insect populations, facilitating germination of seeds, and pollinating a variety of plants. These endangered birds, pictured on our box, are vital for their OWN ecosystems.

Alice Nichols

Location

Artist: Tuck Langland (2008).

Bust honoring the life, work, and teaching of professor Alice Nichols. Located at the north entrance of the Art Instruction Building at Ball State.

Appeal to the Great Spirit

Location

Artist: Cyrus Dallin (1929). Bronze.

Contrary to popular legend, this statue is not Chief Munsee but is a relatively famous bronze statue by Cyrus Dallin of a Sioux Native American. After the death of Edmund Burke Ball, his family commissioned the statue to be placed near the Ball homes along Minnetrista Boulevard in his honor.

Aquarium

Location

Artist: Chloe Weaver (2021).

I am transforming the traffic control box into an aquarium to bring it to life. There are sea creatures, seaweed, coral, and structures living inside the box. I want to bring a splash of fun to Muncie with beachy and aquatic characteristics to what is inside the aquarium. There is a fun interaction of all the objects and creatures growing, swaying, and swimming in the water, along with bright and fun colors. I want to attract kids’ playfulness and imagination while allowing people of all ages to engage in the aquarium and in Muncie’s art.

Awakening Potential

Location

Artist: Kenneth Ryland (2006). Bronze.

Yorktown sculptor designed the bronze statue for the front of the Youth Opportunity Center in Muncie.

Awareness in a Ripple

Location

Artist: Ashley Nora (2025). Mural.

Dynamic mural reflecting the vibrancy and resilience of the Whitely community, the connection to nearby McCulloch Park, and the people-focused mission of this community space.

Be kind to every kind not just mankind.

Location

Artist: Kelly Wright (2022).

I was very excited to be able to express my passion of the love that I have for animals and their future on this planet. It was so much fun, painting a box was an honor, I was so wanting to participate in this program. I remember a gentleman passed by and absolutely loved it stating that he was glad that Muncie was putting some color into the city that he would love to see more.

Beauty Out of Place

Location

Artist: Chaney Youngblood (2021).

To me this piece of art shows the meaning of beautiful things standing out in the an unnatural place. The boxes represent that to me. Jus a utility box turned into art. In this it is a beautiful cherry blossom tree in the middle of space, and it can be whatever you choose it to be but in all it is beauty where it is not common. Something to stand out and show how amazing it is.

Bees

Location

Artist: RISE (@wzrost123) (2024).

Creating buzz in Dave’s Alley, this mural features nature’s pollinators in action.

Beneficence

Location

Artist: Daniel Chester French (1937).

Bronze statue placed by the Muncie Chamber of Commerce to honor the Ball families’ philanthropy. Eventually it became the insignia and logo for Ball State University.

Blessed Virgin Mary

Location

Artist: George Yostel (1965).

Limestone relief sculptures located on the front face of St. Mary’s Church.
