Downtown Muncie

Start at
the heart

Downtown Muncie is the heart of our city and a vibrant arts, dining, and shopping district. Fueling the passion for everything DWNTWN is Muncie Downtown Development Partnership. This nonprofit organization hosts a series of signature events each year that draw thousands to experience the one-of-a-kind amenities the historic neighborhood offers.

A feast for the eyes

Creativity on Display

David Owsley Museum of Art at Ball State University is home to an expansive collection of over 11,000 artworks, representing a wide range of medium, styles, and cultures. While on campus, get blown away at the Glick Center for Glass and see rising artists at the School of Art Griner Gallery. Explore art, nature, and history at Minnetrista Museum & Gardens, an enduring legacy of the Ball Brothers. Local and regional artists regularly exhibit work at Gordy Fine Art & Framing and Cornerstone Center for the Arts.

High-flying experiences

Explore unique cultural exhibits at the Academy of Model Aeronautics, home to the nation’s largest model aircraft museum, and Muncie Children’s Museum, the second largest in Indiana!

Break a Leg!

Experience the thrill of live theatre

Discover a top notch performance at Muncie Civic Theatre in the beautifully-restored Boyce Block building downtown. Or visit Ball State, where you can catch a traveling Broadway show at Emens Auditorium or see tomorrow’s big star at a College of Fine Art performance.

Got an ear for live music?

Check out the Muncie Three Trails Music Series, bringing national recording artists to Muncie’s outdoor venues each summer. Orchestra Indiana brings a contemporary twist to a classical symphony experience. Pubs and eateries in The Village near campus and in DWNTWN Muncie are always rockin’ the night away with local and regional acts.

Paint the Town Red

Join in the Fun

Each month on First Thursday Muncie’s arts scene is on display downtown, featuring gallery openings, art demonstrations, and the Muncie Makers Market. In June and October, the city really comes alive during ArtsWalk, a supercharged First Thursday with something for everyone.

Get Your Creative Juices Flowing

Try something new in a class at Cornerstone Center for the Arts or a workshop at Madjax Maker Force. Learn to paint like Bob at Minnetrista’s Bob Ross Experience or with one of Muncie’s Certified Ross Instructors®. Bring your ideas to life at Made in Muncie Pottery or Happy Accidents Art Studio.

See the City as a Canvas

Muncie has a robust public art collection that is growing every day. Championed by MuncieArts, murals, sculptures—even traffic control boxes—add to the beauty of our city. Encounter a range of traditional and contemporary art styles as you explore the creative landscape.

Thank you to Muncie Arts & Culture Council for collaborating on this public art directory.
